A man is now facing a multitude of charges in Darlington County following a string of suspected crimes that culminated in a dramatic chase, as confirmed by local deputies.
Alert Issued by Police
The Hartsville Police Department issued a “Be on the Lookout” (BOLO) to deputies, urging them to be vigilant for a vehicle that was involved in an incident within the city limits. Shortly after the BOLO was issued, dispatch received a distress call reporting shots fired at a residence along Allen Road, involving the same suspect highlighted in the BOLO.
Suspect’s Crime Spree
The suspect, identified as Carlton Howle, reportedly broke into the home on Allen Road and fired shots during a struggle with the victim attempting to disarm him. While authorities were en route to the scene, they spotted the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
A Dramatic Chase and Apprehension
Despite a brief chase, law enforcement successfully apprehended Howle shortly after. The W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center confirmed that Howle is now facing a total of 17 charges, including attempted murder, first-degree burglary, and failure to comply with a police light signal.
Legal Proceedings
As of Monday at 5 p.m., bond has not yet been set for all the charges against Howle. The authorities continue their investigation into the series of incidents that led to the suspect’s apprehension.
