Colorado Springs Woman Sentenced to 22 Years for Deadly Crash in Parker

A Colorado Springs woman has been sentenced to 22 years in the Colorado Department of Correction (DOC) by a Douglas County judge for a deadly crash that occurred last year in Parker. The woman, identified as 46-year-old Jessica Stahl, was convicted of multiple offenses following a four-day trial.

The incident took place on June 16, 2022, at the intersection of Parker Road and Cottonwood Drive. Parker police officers responded to the crash and found a pedestrian, 25-year-old Lacy Lewis, fighting for her life in the middle of the road. Unfortunately, Lewis passed away several hours after the collision.

An investigation revealed that Lewis and her boyfriend were in a crosswalk when Stahl’s vehicle struck Lewis. The boyfriend escaped uninjured, but Stahl initially stopped at the scene and asked him if she had hit Lewis. Instead of calling 911 or providing assistance, Stahl returned to her car and fled the scene, leading officers on a high-speed chase for about a mile.

When apprehended, it was discovered that Stahl had her young child in the vehicle during the incident. She exhibited clear signs of intoxication and was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood draw, but medical staff were unable to obtain a blood sample due to extensive track marks and destroyed veins from heroin use. However, a urine sample revealed the presence of various illicit drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine, Vicodin, Fentanyl, Suboxone, and Diphenhydramine.

Stahl was convicted of vehicular homicide/DUI, vehicular assault/DUI, child abuse, leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury, and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Conclusion

With the sentencing of Jessica Stahl to 22 years in the Colorado Department of Correction, justice has been served for the deadly crash that claimed the life of Lacy Lewis. The conviction sends a strong message about the consequences of driving under the influence and fleeing the scene of an accident. It serves as a reminder for all drivers to prioritize safety and responsibility on the roads to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
