A Brandon man is currently in custody at Minnehaha County jail following a tragic incident where he allegedly drove drunk and fatally struck a motorcyclist. Sioux Falls Police have identified the suspect as Anthony Surdez, who reportedly turned in front of a motorcycle on Saturday night at the intersection of Arrowhead Drive and Veterans Parkway in the eastern part of the city.
Instead of remaining at the scene and cooperating with authorities, Surdez chose to flee and returned to his residence. However, Brandon police were able to track him down and apprehend him there. Surdez now faces several charges, including vehicular homicide, DUI, and hit and run.
According to court records, this is not the first time Surdez has been in trouble with the law for drunk driving. In fact, this marks his fifth DUI arrest since 2008, highlighting a concerning pattern of behavior.
