A tragic hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a 30-year-old man in Clay County early Sunday morning. The incident occurred in a rural area of Clay County, north of Liberty, according to a news release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, identified as John Paul R. Scheidecker by Melissa Evans, the director of Clay County Emergency Management, was fatally injured in the accident. Clay County Sheriff deputies swiftly responded to reports of a possible hit-and-run fatality crash around 4 a.m. The incident took place on Northeast 120th Street, located between the Missouri Route A highway and Fishing River Road.

Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered the lifeless body of Scheidecker, who had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Investigators are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 816-407-3723.
