On Friday evening, a vigil was held to honor the memory of a man and a woman who were tragically murdered on July 24 in Rancho Palos Verdes. Taylor Raven Whittaker, a 26-year-old from Carson, and Jorge Ramos, a 36-year-old from Willowbrook, were found shot to death in Ramos’ car at Pelican Cove Park. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident as a targeted attack.

Taylor Whittaker was known for her kindness, compassion, and zest for life. She was described by her friend and colleague, Jerrica Williams, as a free spirit who was always willing to lend a helping hand. “She had a great sense of humor and could always make people laugh,” Williams said. Georgia Hubbard, another friend of Whittaker’s, added, “Raven would light up the room.”

Authorities from the Pasadena Police Department recently announced the arrest of six gang members in connection with a shooting death on July 22. Detectives believe these suspects may also be linked to the double homicide of Whittaker and Ramos. The July 22 shooting involved the death of Jesse Munoz and a female friend, who were ambushed while watching the sunrise. The suspects opened fire on Munoz’s car in what appears to be a botched robbery. While the female passenger survived, Munoz tragically lost his life.

Authorities suspect that the six arrested individuals, believed to be members of a criminal gang, have a pattern of targeting victims in secluded areas with poor cellular signal. They are also investigating the suspects’ possible involvement in other armed robberies in Los Angeles County.

At this time, three of the six suspects have been arraigned on robbery charges, while the other three have been released from custody. No murder charges have been filed yet, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case for potential additional charges.

The vigil for Whittaker and Ramos was filled with love and support from family and friends. As balloons were released into the air, the crowd shouted, “We love you Raven!”
