A man has been apprehended by authorities in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this week at a MetroLink station in Belleville, Illinois.

Jarell M. Anderson, 23, was arrested by the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis and has been charged with murder (with intent to kill or injure). The arrest took place on Friday afternoon in St. Louis County.

The shooting occurred on Tuesday, just before 5:30 a.m., following an altercation between two individuals at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee station. Anderson fled the scene while the victim, identified as Turyan Austell, 23, remained on the train with the intention of heading to the Washington Park station. Austell was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead.

The Major Case Squad spokesperson described the incident as an “unfortunate, tragic, and senseless crime” and clarified that it was not a random act of violence.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by FOX 2, Anderson allegedly acted “without lawful justification and with the intent to kill or do great bodily harm.” Investigators followed up on over 90 leads before apprehending Anderson.
