On a fateful Thursday afternoon, Harford County was struck by a devastating collision involving a dump truck and a passenger vehicle. The incident occurred on Rt. 165 near Furnace Road and Huntfield Way, prompting a swift response from the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 12:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident. Tragically, the driver of the BMW 328i, identified as John Derwart, a 78-year-old resident of Fallston, lost his life in the collision. The dump truck, operated by Scott Thommen, a 54-year-old from Delta, was maneuvering through a work zone when the accident transpired.

Fortunately, there were no passengers in the construction vehicle. However, Joan Bridges, an 81-year-old Fallston resident, was a passenger in the BMW and has been transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

Following this devastating incident, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team has commenced a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
