“The video contained disturbing scenes of violence and the suspect repeating incoherent statements,” said Ryan Lenahan, who claimed to have seen the footage.
Lenahan recalled commenting on the video, calling Mechikoff “sick” and expressing hopes of his arrest. He later received a call from the suspect, who rambled incoherently and appeared to be at the same location as the crime. Lenahan promptly contacted local police.
Following the disturbing phone call, Lenahan immediately contacted local law enforcement.

Law enforcement traced Mechikoff’s phone to a large apartment complex in San Mateo, CA with the help of Nevada authorities. A thorough search of the complex was conducted, with officers going door to door to locate the victim and suspect.
Police eventually discovered the victim, identified as Claribel Estrella, deceased in her apartment. Mechikoff had already fled the scene but was apprehended within two hours. He was found in possession of the suspected murder weapon.
“While the motive for the stabbing is still under investigation, we know that Mechikoff callously filmed the victim’s final moments and shared the video on Facebook before fleeing the area,” stated the police in a press release.
According to ABC News, the victim has been identified as Claribel Estrella. The District Attorney’s office plans to charge Mechikoff with murder, along with additional charges for causing great bodily harm and using a knife.
“The video contained highly disturbing content,” said the spokesperson for the San Mateo Police Department. “Not only did a life tragically end, but the suspect went further by sharing the video. This behavior is deeply troubling.”
