A man in Birmingham, Alabama, has died after an assault on July 12 left him with a blunt force injury. His friend discovered him unresponsive the following day and he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was due to injuries sustained during the assault. Lawanza Dynail McCormick, a 45-year-old male from Bessemer, has been identified as the suspect and has been arrested for the murder. He is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail. Man Fatally Injured in Assault, Investigation Underway

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – A tragic incident on July 12 resulted in the death of a man who suffered a severe blunt force injury.

The following day, on July 13, a concerned friend visited the home of Cedric Orlando Reese in the 4700 block of 5th Avenue Wylam to check on his welfare. To their dismay, Reese, aged 58, was found unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy determined that Reese’s cause of death was directly related to the injuries he sustained during the assault at the 5 Way Convenience Store located in the 4800 block of 8th Avenue Wylam.

The authorities are treating the death as a homicide and are actively investigating the case.

On Friday, July 28, Lawanza Dynail McCormick, a 45-year-old man from Bessemer, was identified as the suspect responsible for Reese’s injuries. McCormick was subsequently arrested after detectives obtained a murder warrant based on the identification provided by a patrol officer.

McCormick has been transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
