The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has announced the identity of the deputy who was critically injured after being shot while serving a court-ordered eviction notice in Tualatin. Civil Deputy Charles Dozé, a 10-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, sustained multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds to his face, arms, and chest. Although still in the hospital, Dozé’s condition has improved and he is now listed as serious but stable. The deputy expressed his determination to recover and thanked the community for the overwhelming support.
In response to the incident, the Washington County Police Officer Association has set up a GoFundMe donation account for Deputy Dozé. Starting from August 1, additional donations can also be made at any US Bank location, according to WCSO.

The shooting occurred when Washington County deputies arrived at the Timbers at Tualatin apartments complex to serve an eviction notice to Kristafer Graves, a 34-year-old individual. Graves opened fire on the deputies before they could reach him, injuring Deputy Dozé in the process. In response, authorities fired back as Graves retreated into his apartment. The Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT) was called to the scene to secure the area.
After gaining access to Graves’ apartment, the TNT discovered him dead in the bathroom. The cause of death is currently unknown, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause. It remains unclear whether the authorities’ gunfire struck Graves or if he shot himself.
Other Deputies Involved
In addition to Deputy Dozé, three other deputies were involved in the shooting incident. Civil Deputy Samantha Burkhead, a 9-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, Deputy Chris Schroeder, a 15-year veteran, and Deputy Cory Hoffman, who has served for 27 years, have been placed on administrative leave following standard procedure, as stated by WCSO.
