A tragic accident in Georgia last week claimed the lives of a mother and her 17-year-old son when their car was struck by a train. The incident occurred on Highway 159 near Double Run Road, according to the Wilcox County Sheriff’s Office and a spokesperson from the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
According to a preliminary report from the Georgia State Patrol, it was determined that the 2016 Kia Optima driven by the teenager was hit by a CSX freightliner after the car bypassed the safety arms at a railroad crossing. The report stated that the crossing arms were activated and lowered, and the red lights were active and flashing.
Eyewitnesses claimed to have seen the Kia going around the safety arms before the collision. The train was blocking the intersection, and the car was off the road when authorities arrived at the scene.
The victims were identified as 17-year-old Dallas Corbin Dozier and 34-year-old Brandy Elizabeth Drinnon. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Dozier was a student at Hawkinsville High School and enjoyed gaming and spending time with his cousins. Drinnon was a self-employed tattoo artist who loved drawing, traveling, music, fishing, and spending time with her family and kids.
