The child’s mother informed authorities that Perez, an estranged family member, had arrived at her home and taken her 5-year-old child and her vehicle without permission.

Following the incident, a search was initiated, involving multiple units, including sheriff’s aviation and the sheriff’s bloodhound. An AMBER Alert was also activated to aid in the search for the kidnapped toddler. Meanwhile, in Jurupa Valley, Riverside County deputies responded to reports of an “erratic male throwing beer bottles at vehicles at a gas station.” The deputies identified the individual as Perez and took him into custody. The 5-year-old child was found unharmed inside the stolen vehicle.

Authorities evaluated the child’s condition and returned them to the mother along with her vehicle. Perez was arrested on charges of kidnapping, child endangerment, and stolen vehicle. He was booked at the West Valley Detention Center.
