The incident occurred in San Perlita, with Arturo Sauceda and his mother both being shot. Sauceda sadly died, and his mother remains hospitalized. Sauceda’s stepfather, Jose Villalobos, has been arrested for the shooting. Sauceda was a senior starting lineman for the SRHS football team, and the team plans to honor him by naming him as an honorary captain and wearing his number on their helmets. A tragic incident occurred in San Perlita over the weekend, where a Santa Rosa High School football standout lost his life while trying to protect his mother during a domestic dispute. The shooting took place on 7th Street and Sunset Boulevard at around 10:30 p.m. on July 22.

Arturo Sauceda and his mother were both shot, with Sauceda unfortunately succumbing to his injuries. His mother is currently hospitalized, and the extent of her injuries remains unknown. Authorities have arrested Sauceda’s stepfather, Jose Villalobos, in connection with the shooting.

According to Willacy County District Attorney Annette Hinojosa, Sauceda was trying to shield his mother from Villalobos when he was shot. This brave act of defending his loved ones cost Sauceda his life.

Sauceda was a senior starting lineman for the Santa Rosa High School football team, and his untimely demise has left the community in shock. In honor of his memory, the team plans to designate him as an honorary captain for the upcoming season. Additionally, the players will wear Sauceda’s number 68 on their helmets as a tribute to their fallen teammate.

Villalobos has been charged with murder and aggravated assault, pending further investigation.
