Bibbs, who was known as “Adam Doe,” was found on an abandoned farm in Lake Village, Indiana in 1983. Eyler, also known as the “highway killer,” drugged and murdered Bibbs and three other victims. The other victims have already been identified. The case was brought to the DNA Doe Project in 2020, and after years of investigation and DNA testing, a match was found, confirming Bibbs’ identity. The identification of Bibbs brings closure to the families of all four victims. Michael Bauer and John Bartlett were previously identified, but “Adam Doe” and “Brad Doe” remained unidentified for decades. Brad Doe was identified as John Brandenburg, Jr in 2021.
The case of “Adam Doe” was brought to the DNA Doe Project by the Newton County Coroner, Scott McCord, in 2020. After years of unsuccessful leads, the team of investigative genetic genealogists made progress in January when they obtained a match from a potential brother of Bibbs. The Indiana State Police Lab conducted conclusive “Kinship” testing, confirming that “Adam” was Keith Bibbs.
Eyler, who confessed to killing over 20 young men in the ’80s and ’90s, was tied to Bibbs’ murder. He was sentenced to death but died in 1994 while on death row.
