“Johnson County Woman Faces Felony Charges in Morgantown Shooting”

A Johnson County woman named Miranda Lawson is facing multiple felony charges in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in Morgantown in 2022. The charges against Lawson include aiding an attempted murder, aggravated battery, and pointing a firearm at another person. These charges have been added to her original charge of misdemeanor false informing of police.

The incident took place on August 7, 2022, when Johnson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a person being shot in the 6700 block of South 800 West. The victim, identified as 38-year-old Jerry Jones of Morgantown, was taken to IU Methodist Hospital for surgery.

During the investigation, detectives obtained search warrants for two different homes. At one of the homes, they found Lawson, who had been listed as a person of interest in the incident. She was subsequently arrested and later released on bond following her initial hearing on the misdemeanor charge.

Another person involved in the incident, 19-year-old Nicholas Saunders of Morgantown, was located at a different home and is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, and pointing a firearm.

According to court documents, Saunders admitted to the shooting, claiming that he believed Jones might have had a knife.

Currently, a court date for Saunders has not yet been set.
