“22-year-old charged with murder in slaying of Brandon Marquez Porter”

A suspect has been charged in the slaying of a man whose body was found in a wooded area in Jasper nearly two weeks ago. Jasper police Chief J.C. Poe on Friday announced the arrest of 22-year-old Jamorron Davion Clay, who is charged with murder in the shooting death of Brandon Marquez Porter, 24.

Porter’s body was found on July 9 behind Taco Loco Mexican Grill near the 1100 block of Highway 78 W. The investigation into his death was launched immediately, and his body was sent for an autopsy.

Chief Poe commended his investigators for their tireless efforts in identifying Porter and determining the cause of his death. He also expressed gratitude for the tips received from the community, which played a significant role in the investigation.

Detectives interviewed dozens of people and executed several search warrants, leading them to identify Clay as a suspect. He was taken into custody on an unrelated failure to appear warrant by the police department’s narcotics investigators.

According to Chief Poe, investigators have recovered the murder weapon and believe Porter was killed on July 4. However, the investigation is still ongoing, and they are likely to uncover more details in due course.
