ATV Crash Claims the Life of Young Man in Wyoming

On Friday, July 14, tragedy struck in Park County, Wyoming when a young man lost his life in an ATV crash. The incident occurred in a field on the Northfork at 3461 Hwy 14-16-20 W, and the ATV operator suffered serious injuries as a result.

According to reports, the ATV rolled over onto the victim’s head and chest, causing fatal injuries. Bystanders at the scene were quick to act and managed to remove the ATV from on top of the victim. They immediately began performing CPR until paramedics arrived.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Ian Vilkama from Wheaton, IL. It is worth noting that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Despite the efforts of first responders, Vilkama tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The Park County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Cody Regional Health EMS, and the Cody Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene. Authorities and medical professionals continued resuscitation efforts upon their arrival.

The cause of death has been determined to be massive head trauma, as ruled by the Park County Coroner, Cody Gortmaker.
