Authorities believe that the 17-year-old suspect stabbed Vera during a large fight that broke out as people were leaving the nearby nightclub. The police have not released the identity of the suspect due to their status as a minor. Interestingly, the suspect was already in custody at the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center on an unrelated case when the arrest warrant for the stabbing was served.

This incident adds to a recent spike in violence in downtown Salt Lake City. In response, the police have increased their patrols in the area, with a focus on deterring and responding to crime. As of Sunday, there have been three homicides in District 4, which includes downtown, compared to two at the same time last year.

The arrest of the 17-year-old suspect brings a measure of closure to the family and friends of Oscar Vera. The police will continue their efforts to curb crime in downtown Salt Lake City, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents and visitors..
