The brutal killing of an Indian woman by her maid in Singapore has shocked the nation. The maid, identified as Zin Mar Nwe, stabbed the woman 26 times in a fit of rage after being threatened to be sent back to the agency.

The incident took place in the victim’s Singapore apartment, where the maid had been working for four months. The 17-year-old maid had arrived in Singapore in 2018, falsely claiming to be 23 years old, the minimum age requirement to work as a domestic worker in Singapore. The victim lived in the apartment with her two teenage daughters.

The tension between the maid and the victim escalated when the victim’s mother-in-law arrived from India for a month-long stay. The elderly woman and the maid had difficulty getting along, and the victim would often physically abuse the maid.

On June 25, 2018, the victim threatened to send the maid back to the agency over a petty issue. Enraged, the maid grabbed a knife and stabbed the woman 26 times. She then ransacked one of the bedrooms, retrieved her belongings, and fled with some cash.

However, her attempt to escape was short-lived as she was arrested by the police. Initially, the maid denied her involvement in the murder and even blamed two fictitious men for the crime.

Zin Mar Nwe has now been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the 70-year-old woman. The court found her guilty of intentionally inflicting multiple fatal stab wounds on the victim.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper screening and supervision when hiring domestic workers. It highlights the need for stringent regulations and enforcement to ensure the safety and well-being of both the employers and employees in such situations..
