A man has been arrested for the murder of his girlfriend in Fernley, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office. Roger Lee Borud is accused of killing Sephra Fitak, whose body was found after a structure fire on Saturday.

The incident occurred when Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel responded to a structure fire at 320 Aspen Way in Fernley. The fire was contained to a bedroom, and Fitak’s body was discovered once the blaze was extinguished.

An investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the Nevada State Fire Marshal, and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office determined that Fitak had been a victim of homicide and that the fire had been intentionally set to conceal the crime.

Borud was identified as the suspect and was initially arrested for burglary, home invasion, and probation violation in an unrelated investigation. However, on Sunday, he was also arrested for murder and first-degree arson.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the homicide and arson to come forward and contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office or email detective@lyon-county.org. The case number for this investigation is 23LY03074.

Alternatively, individuals can provide information anonymously by contacting Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.

The arrest of Borud brings some closure to the tragic incident in Fernley. However, the investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officials will continue their efforts to gather more evidence and bring justice to the victim and her family.
