“77-Year-Old Vermont Man Dies in Tragic House Fire Attempting to Retrieve Car Keys”

A tragic incident occurred in Vermont early Friday morning when a 77-year-old man lost his life in a house fire. The man, identified as James Lacount, went back into the burning home in an attempt to retrieve his car keys. Unfortunately, the building collapsed shortly after he re-entered.

The fire broke out on Bowen Road in Newbury, prompting the response of the Newbury and Corinth fire departments. Upon arrival, the firefighters found the single-family home fully engulfed in flames. All of the residents had managed to escape safely, but Lacount decided to go back inside to retrieve his car keys and move his vehicle away from the fire. Tragically, he never made it back out.

Once the fire was extinguished, crews were able to enter the property and discovered Lacount’s body in a bedroom on the first floor. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of his death, as well as to confirm his identity.

Due to the extensive damage, investigators have not been able to determine the origin and cause of the fire. However, it is not believed to be suspicious in nature.

The family affected by this devastating event is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross and the state police.
