Two Orlando police officers were forced to take lethal action on Friday afternoon when a suicidal woman charged at them with two knives. Deputy Chief Chad Ochiuzzo provided details about the incident during a press conference, stating that the officers received a call from the woman’s boyfriend reporting her intention to kill herself. The incident took place on the 1200 block of Pioneers Way, off Narcoossee Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, crisis intervention-trained officers attempted to negotiate with the woman over the phone. However, she hung up at one point before the conversation resumed. The woman then walked out of her apartment, holding a knife, and later returned indoors. The officers continued their efforts to communicate with her, but after several unsuccessful attempts, she abruptly ran out of her apartment towards the officers in the hallway, wielding two knives. In response, the officers fired their weapons, resulting in her death.

The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave while the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducts an investigation. This investigation is standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings and will determine if any criminal charges are warranted.

The officers were equipped with body cameras, and the footage is expected to be released within the next 30 days. This will provide additional evidence and insight into the events leading up to the shooting.

It is important to note that this story is still developing, and further information may emerge as the investigation progresses. The incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement officers when dealing with individuals in crisis situations and underscores the need for effective crisis intervention training..
