In a tragic incident, two Orlando police officers were forced to shoot and kill a suicidal woman who charged at them with two knives. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when the Orlando Police Department received a call about “unknown trouble” at the 1200 block of Pioneers Way.

The call was transferred from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and it was the woman’s boyfriend who reported that she was talking about killing herself and was armed with a knife. Crisis intervention officers arrived at the scene and began negotiations with the woman over the phone. However, at one point, the woman hung up, but communication was reestablished later.

During the negotiations, the woman walked out of her apartment holding a knife before returning back inside. The police attempted additional communication, but the woman suddenly charged at the officers in the hallway with two knives in her hands. The officers, who were trained in crisis negotiations, had no choice but to shoot and kill her.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The incident will then be reviewed by the State Attorney’s Office to determine if criminal charges are warranted.

This is the second fatal shooting involving the Orlando Police Department this month. On July 3, an officer shot and killed 26-year-old Derek Diaz, who was unarmed and sitting in his car in downtown Orlando. Body camera footage showed Diaz reaching towards the vehicle’s center console before the officer fired his weapon, striking Diaz in the back.

The recent incidents have raised concerns about police use of force and the need for transparency in these cases. Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, along with Diaz’s family, has called for more information to be released about the shooting. Orlando Chief Eric Smith has acknowledged the need for answers and emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the investigation process.
