An Alamo man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly recording himself killing a Mission resident and uploading the video to Instagram. Julio Diaz was arrested on Tuesday, according to Hidalgo County records.

The gruesome details of the alleged murder were revealed in a probable cause affidavit obtained by ValleyCentral. On July 10, McAllen police were called to the scene where they found the victim, Robert Wise, next to his pickup truck with multiple gunshot wounds.

Surveillance video reportedly showed Diaz pulling up in a black Chevrolet Blazer and firing multiple shots at Wise. The video also allegedly showed Diaz holding a handgun in one hand and an electronic device in the other. Shockingly, Diaz then posted a video of the murder on his Instagram account.

The police received a tip from a friend of Diaz, who claimed that he had received a message from Diaz on social media admitting to the shooting. Diaz was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on July 12. His bond has been set at $1 million.

This shocking case highlights the disturbing trend of violence being shared on social media platforms. It raises questions about the responsibility of social media companies to monitor and remove violent content promptly. While social media can be a powerful tool for communication and connection, incidents like this highlight the darker side of its influence.

The impact of such graphic content on the viewers and the families of the victims cannot be overstated. It is crucial for society to address the issue of violence on social media and work towards creating a safer online environment for all users..
