“Fatal Crash on Highway 59 Claims One Life; Victims Identified”

A tragic two-vehicle crash on Highway 59 South in Nacogdoches County, Texas has led to traffic delays and the deployment of a hazmat team. The incident occurred in the 5800 block of U.S. Highway 59, prompting a response from Nacogdoches County deputies, Texas DPS troopers, and local volunteer fire departments.

According to reports from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call was received at 12:34 p.m. notifying authorities of the crash. Sadly, one person was pronounced dead as a result of the collision. The crash involved a diesel tanker truck, which resulted in fuel being spilled across the highway. A hazmat crew was dispatched to the scene to clean up the spill.

To manage traffic flow, both southbound lanes of the highway have been closed, and workers are in the process of setting up two-way traffic using the northbound lanes. This closure is expected to last until at least 10 p.m.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) provided more details about the crash. The tanker truck reportedly collided with a Hyundai Sonata, which had pulled out in front of the truck to make a U-turn. The driver and passenger of the tanker, both from Shreveport, Louisiana, were transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other passengers in the Hyundai sustained injuries. One was taken to UT Tyler Medical Center for treatment, and the other was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital. The identities of the individuals in the Hyundai have not yet been released.
