“33-year-old Jeremiah Wise dies in police-involved shooting after standoff in Byesville”

A tragic incident occurred in Byesville, Ohio, as a local man lost his life after a standoff with law enforcement. The Guernsey County Sheriff’s office received a call regarding an individual making suicidal threats at a residence on North Ninth Street. Both the sheriff’s office and the Byesville Police Department promptly responded to the scene.

The man involved in the incident was identified as 33-year-old Jeremiah Wise. Negotiations between Wise and the Crisis Negotiation Team went on for several hours before he eventually exited the residence. However, instead of surrendering peacefully, Wise brandished a firearm towards the officers, resulting in him being shot. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

In order to ensure a thorough investigation, the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) was called in to examine the circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting. The BCI’s investigation is currently ongoing and will be referred to the Guernsey County Prosecutor’s Office once completed. The findings of the investigation will also be made public on the Attorney General’s website.
