A Tennessee surgeon was fatally shot by a patient inside the Campbell Clinic in Collierville, Tennessee. The shooting occurred in an exam room and the suspect was apprehended outside the clinic shortly after the incident. The suspect, who had a handgun in his possession, has not yet been identified.

According to Collierville Police, the patient had been in the clinic for several hours before the shooting and there was no indication of any threats made against the victim, Dr. Benjamin Mauck. Witnesses reported that the patient had been threatening someone at the clinic for the past week.

Campbell Clinic released a statement expressing shock and heartbreak over the loss of Dr. Mauck, who was described as a highly respected and beloved physician. Dr. Mauck also worked as a surgeon at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, where he was regarded as a friend and dedicated physician.

Police conducted multiple searches inside and outside the facility to ensure there were no other encounters. The community is not under any ongoing threat, according to authorities.

Police Chief Dale Lane credited the staff at Campbell Clinic for acting on their active shooter training, emphasizing the importance of being observant and paying attention to surroundings. He encouraged people to not live in fear but to be prepared and react as trained in such situations.

The clinic announced that its locations will be closed on Wednesday and will communicate the reopening of all facilities at a later time. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and more details will be provided as they become available..
