A man in Spalding County, Georgia, was fatally shot after confronting three individuals who were egging his house. The incident occurred on July 3 when deputies received a call about a man down in the roadway. Upon arrival, they discovered the man with a gunshot wound, and he was later identified as Johnathan Gilbert, also known as Tyler Lane.

According to Sheriff Darrell Dix, three people identified as Sydney Maughon, Jeremy Munson, and McKenzie Davenport went to Gilbert’s residence to vandalize it by egging it. When Gilbert noticed their actions, he came out unarmed to confront them. As the three suspects drove away, Maughon allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Gilbert multiple times.

The suspects were later tracked down by their cellphone numbers to an address in Henry County. Henry County officers found the car and gun believed to be connected with Gilbert’s death. Maughon has been charged with murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, battery-family violence, and criminal trespass. Munson was charged with murder, malice murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, battery, and criminal trespass, while Davenport was charged with malice murder, battery, and criminal trespass.

The police stated that because the three suspects planned and traveled together with the intent to commit a crime that led to Gilbert’s murder, they are all equally responsible. They emphasized that even though they went to egg the house, the victim’s confrontation resulted in his tragic death, and the suspects callously left his body in the middle of the road.

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of engaging in destructive and illegal activities. It highlights the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and seeking legal recourse rather than resorting to violence. The community mourns the loss of Gilbert and hopes that justice will be served in this case..
