On Wednesday morning, tragedy struck in Crisp County, Georgia, when a sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot during a traffic stop. The deputy, identified as Tyee Brown, 26, of Macon County, was taken to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, Croshawn Cross, 25, of Unadilla, fled the scene of the shooting but was later apprehended by Monroe County sheriff’s deputies after a high-speed chase on Interstate 475.

During the chase, Cross was driving a stolen sheriff’s office patrol car, which he had taken after shooting Deputy Brown. The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office reported that the car had been pulled over by Deputy Brown due to its stolen plates and the driver’s connection to numerous burglaries in the area. Tragically, when Deputy Brown approached the vehicle, he was shot by Cross, who then fled in the stolen patrol car.

Following Cross’s arrest, he was charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and carjacking, among other charges. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) will be conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting.
