Bob Moore, Founder of Bob’s Red Mill, Passes Away at 94

MILWAUKIE, Ore., Feb. 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Bob Moore, the renowned founder of Bob’s Red Mill and a prominent figure in the natural foods industry, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the age of 94. Moore, known for his larger-than-life personality and his unwavering passion for whole grains, will be remembered as a true pioneer in the field. Despite his passing, his legacy lives on through his work and the impact he made on the world.

A true entrepreneur at heart, Moore’s journey in the natural foods industry began in 1978 when he founded Bob’s Red Mill. What started as a small operation serving the local community in Portland, Ore., quickly grew into a global powerhouse. Today, Bob’s Red Mill offers over 200 products in more than 70 countries, making it one of the leading natural food brands worldwide. Moore’s dedication to his company was unwavering, as he remained a Board Member until his last breath, showcasing his strong work ethic and commitment to his vision.

One of Moore’s greatest contributions was the establishment of the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) on his 81st birthday in 2010. Through this plan, Moore ensured that the company’s future would be in the hands of those who helped build and grow it. Today, more than 700 employee owners proudly own and continue the Bob’s Red Mill legacy.

Trey Winthrop, CEO of Bob’s Red Mill, expressed his gratitude for Moore’s leadership and the impact he had on the company. In addition to his work in the natural foods industry, Moore and his late wife Charlee made substantial contributions to Oregon universities over the past decade. Their donations to Oregon State University led to the establishment of the Moore Family Center for Whole Grain Foods, Nutrition, and Preventive Health in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Their generosity also extended to other educational and research programs throughout the state, including the Bob and Charlee Moore Institute for Nutrition & Wellness at Oregon Health & Science University.

Bob Moore leaves behind a loving family, including his three sons, Ken, Bob Jr., and David, as well as nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His family, along with the entire Bob’s Red Mill community, will greatly miss his presence and cherish the memories they shared with him.

A celebration of life service is currently being planned, with details to be announced. In the meantime, friends and fans are encouraged to visit the Bob’s Red Mill Whole Grain Store in Milwaukie, Oregon, to share their fond memories of Bob.
