(WATE) — A youth-led nonprofit organization based in Florida, Running 4 Heroes, is paying tribute to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were shot during a traffic stop on Thursday night. In a Facebook post, the organization announced that it will be providing a $2,000 grant to assist Deputy Shelby Eggers in her recovery through its Injured First Responders Grant Program. This grant marks the 55th recipient of the program.
The organization also requested prayers for Deputy Eggers’ recovery and expressed condolences to the family of fallen Deputy Greg McCowan. Both Eggers and McCowan were involved in the traffic stop in the 4900 block of Sevierville Road after observing a vehicle driving erratically and failing to maintain lanes.
