The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has made significant progress in the investigation of the heart-wrenching murder of a two-year-old boy in the Langley Park area. Two suspects, identified as Israel Fuentes, Jr., aged 33, from Lewisdale, and Johnny Alejandro Turcios, aged 28, also from Lewisdale, have been apprehended and now face charges related to the untimely death of Jeremy Poou-Caceres from the Chillum area. This horrific incident, which occurred on February 8, 2024, also resulted in the non-fatal shooting of the victim’s mother.

On the fateful evening, at approximately 5:35 pm, a vigilant detective operating near the 1400 block of Kanawha Street promptly responded to the sound of gunfire. Following the noise, the detective swiftly arrived at an apartment complex, where the crime scene unfolded. The detective discovered the victims and immediately rendered emergency aid to the toddler, utilizing a trauma kit provided by the department.


Despite the detective’s valiant efforts, the child tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Thanks to the diligent investigative efforts, combined with valuable assistance from the community, Fuentes and Turcios were identified as the perpetrators and subsequently arrested. Initial findings indicate that the suspects were engaged in gunfire with another group when stray bullets struck the innocent mother and her child, who happened to be in close proximity but were not involved in the altercation.

Assistant Chief Vernon Hale expressed the utmost dedication of the investigative team, emphasizing their tireless work to bring those responsible to justice and provide some solace to the grieving family of Jeremy Poou-Caceres. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities strive to apprehend any additional individuals involved in this appalling incident.

Fuentes and Turcios now face charges including first-degree murder, among others, and are currently in police custody, awaiting transfer to the Department of Corrections. The Prince George’s County Police Department reiterates its unwavering commitment to fully resolving this case and delivering justice.
