This incident marks the seventh death of an Indian or Indian-American in the country in recent months, raising concerns over the safety of the Indian community residing in the United States.
Assault Occurred near the White House
The assault took place on February 2 in the 1100 block of 15th Street NW, which is just seven blocks away from the iconic White House. The police were alerted about the incident at 2 am and upon reaching the scene, they discovered Taneja with life-threatening injuries. He was immediately rushed to a trauma center, unconscious and with severe head injuries.
“On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead,” stated the Metropolitan Police, Washington DC, in a press release on Friday.
