A shocking incident unfolded at a preschool in Pembroke Pines on Thursday, as a man allegedly attempted to abduct a young child. The incident, as reported by Local 10 News, involved a 41-year-old man named Joe Edward Ochoa Jr. from Heath, Texas.

According to authorities, the incident took place just before noon outside Peppermint Academy Preschool located at 7753 Johnson Street.

As per the police reports, the child’s mother was pushing her stroller near the entrance of the school when she noticed a heated argument involving three men.

During the altercation, one of the men, later identified as Ochoa, allegedly pulled out a gun.

Fearing for their safety, the mother and child sought refuge near the preschool entrance.

However, Ochoa disregarded the mother’s pleas and approached them, attempting to grab the child from the stroller.

The report suggests that Ochoa may have intended to use the child and the stroller as a shield against the other individuals involved in the argument.

Fortunately, Ochoa eventually released the child and fled the scene. However, police were able to apprehend him near the intersection of North University Drive and Johnson Street.

Upon his arrest, officers also discovered methamphetamine in Ochoa’s possession.

Ochoa is currently facing charges of kidnapping, battery, and methamphetamine possession. He is being held on a bond of $162,500 at the Broward Main Jail.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and authorities have yet to identify or apprehend the individual who initially brandished the gun during the argument.
