Geingob’s political career began in the early 1960s when he joined the South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO), which fought for Namibia’s independence from South Africa. He played a significant role in the liberation struggle and spent several years in exile, representing SWAPO on the international stage. Geingob held various positions within the party and was instrumental in negotiating Namibia’s independence.

In 1990, Namibia achieved independence, and Geingob returned to his homeland.
