A National Youth Service Corps Member Dies at Football Viewing Centre in Adamawa State

A tragic incident occurred during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinal match between Nigeria and South Africa, as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Adamawa State lost his life at a football viewing centre in the Numan area of the state. The corps member, identified as Samuel from Kaduna State, passed away before Nigeria scored the winning goal in the penalty shootouts.

The news of Samuel’s untimely demise was shared on social media by an eyewitness who was present at the viewing centre. According to the post, Samuel, who was serving in Numan, fainted just moments before the winning goal was kicked. Unfortunately, he could not be saved and passed away before reaching the hospital in Numan. May his soul rest in peace.

Confirmation of the Tragic Incident

Jingi Dennis, the NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, confirmed the death of the corps member at the General Hospital in Numan. He expressed his shock and stated that he was awaiting further details regarding the incident. Samuel’s colleagues, who accompanied him to watch the match, reported that he had mentioned his dislike for penalty shootouts before suddenly collapsing and losing consciousness. The doctor at the General Hospital in Numan later declared him dead.

A Second Death during the Match

This unfortunate incident marked the second reported death during the highly intense encounter between Nigeria and South Africa. Dr Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives representing the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, also passed away while watching the AFCON semi-finals match. It was reported that Dr Ojougboh suffered a massive heart attack when South Africa scored a penalty against Nigeria.

At this time, the exact cause of Samuel’s death is unknown, and further investigations may shed more light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Samuel’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

It is important to remember that events like these serve as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the fragility of our existence. We should cherish every moment and appreciate the gift of life that we have been given.

As we mourn the loss of Samuel and Dr Cairo Ojougboh, let us also celebrate their lives and the contributions they made to their communities. They will be remembered for their service and the impact they had on the lives of others.

May their souls rest in eternal peace.
