Former President of the Court of Appeal Justice C. Dennis Morrison Passes Away
Former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice C. Dennis Morrison, has sadly passed away today at the age of 73. His passing has left a void in the legal community and the nation as a whole.
A Distinguished Career
Justice Morrison had an illustrious career in the legal profession. He was appointed to serve in the Court of Appeal of Jamaica in 2008 and, in January 2016, he was appointed as its president. With his extensive knowledge and expertise, he made a significant impact on the Jamaican legal system.
As news of his passing broke, Justice Minister Delroy Chuck expressed his admiration for Morrison, describing him as an “outstanding jurist.” Minister Chuck also highlighted the fact that Morrison had taught the majority of lawyers currently practicing in Jamaica, a testament to his influence and dedication to the legal profession.
Before his appointment to the bench, Morrison had a successful career as a lawyer. He was called to the Bar in Jamaica in 1975 and practiced for 25 years before transitioning to the bench. His experience as a practitioner undoubtedly shaped his approach to justice and contributed to his effectiveness as a judge.
In addition to his role in Jamaica, Morrison served as a judge of the Court of Appeal of Belize from 2004 to 2015. He also acted as a judge of the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal in January 2015. Since 2015, he had been serving as a judge of the Court of Appeal of the Cayman Islands.
Morrison’s retirement in 2020 marked the end of an era for the legal community, as his wisdom and guidance will be greatly missed.
