Paul Vallone, a former Queens councilmember and member of one of the borough’s most notable political families, passed away over the weekend at the age of 56. Born into a family deeply involved in public service, Vallone followed in the footsteps of his brother, father, and grandfather when he was elected to public office in 2014. Representing District 19, Vallone served two terms in the City Council, working tirelessly to bring city services closer to the Eastern Queens community.
A True Public Servant
Vallone dedicated himself to serving the people of District 19, introducing nearly 800 pieces of legislation during his time in the Council. His focus was on improving access to city services and fostering community involvement. Vallone was one of the earliest councilmembers to embrace participatory budgeting, allowing constituents to vote on capital projects funded by his office. District 19 consistently had the highest number of participatory budgeting votes in the city during Vallone’s tenure.
A Family Legacy
The Vallone family has a long history of public service in Queens. Paul Vallone’s grandfather, Charles J. Visitation will be held at Joseph Farenga and Sons funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 1 from 2 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Avelino Catholic Church, followed by a burial service at Calvary Cemetery.
