Kendrapada Freedom Fighter Nilamani Samal Dies at the Age of 102
Kendrapada: Freedom fighter Nilamani Samal of Balipadia village in Jajpur district passed away at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Saturday. He was 102 years old.
Nilamani had been battling age-related ailments for the past two years. Born during the British Raj, he actively participated in the Quit India movement and was imprisoned for three years.
Nilamani was a devoted follower of Mahatma Gandhi and had the privilege of walking 10 kilometers alongside him to fight against untouchability.
Aside from his involvement in the freedom struggle, Nilamani dedicated more than seven decades of his life to fighting for the rights of farmers in Jajpur district.
“His sudden demise has come as a shock to all of us. The farming community has lost a true champion of their causes,” expressed Barachana MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy.
Several dignitaries including Ministers Pritiranjan Ghadei and Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Jajpur MLA Pranab Das, and Kendrapada MLA Sashibhusan Behera have offered their condolences on Nilamani’s passing.
Nilamani Samal will always be remembered as a courageous freedom fighter who dedicated his life to the service of the nation. His contributions to the fight for independence and the welfare of farmers will never be forgotten.
