Long-Time DEA Special Agent Phil Jordan Passes Away at 81

EL PASO, Texas – It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Phil Jordan, a long-time Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) special agent in charge in Dallas and director of the El Paso Intelligence Center. According to WFAA, Jordan, 81, passed away following emergency surgery.

A Life Dedicated to Fighting Drug Trafficking

Phil Jordan was a remarkable individual who dedicated his life to fighting drug trafficking. Born and raised in El Paso, Jordan was a graduate of Jefferson High School and went on to study at the University of New Mexico. His passion for law enforcement led him to work for the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, now known as the DEA.

A Tragic Loss

This loss hits close to home for Jordan’s family, as his brother Bruno was tragically killed in 1995. Phil Jordan’s relentless investigation into criminal activity led to indictments against the Juarez Cartel, and it is believed that this ultimately resulted in his brother’s death. Despite Jordan’s strong conviction that it was a hit ordered by drug traffickers, the case was prosecuted as a carjacking. The story of his brother’s death was even chronicled in Chuck Bowden’s book, “Down by the River.”

Unwavering Dedication and Achievement

Throughout his career, Phil Jordan displayed unwavering dedication and achieved remarkable success. He was instrumental in increasing the DEA’s investigations into drug organizations, which ultimately led to numerous drug dealers receiving prison terms. His relentless pursuit of justice and commitment to keeping our communities safe will always be remembered.

A Battle with Brain Cancer

In recent years, Phil Jordan faced another formidable opponent – brain cancer. Despite this diagnosis, he continued to fight and make significant contributions to the field of law enforcement. His strength and resilience were an inspiration to all who knew him.

Phil Jordan’s passing is a tremendous loss for the law enforcement community and the city of El Paso. His legacy will forever be remembered, and his contributions to the fight against drug trafficking will continue to make a lasting impact.
