Sreela Majumdar, Popular Indian Actor, Passes Away at 65

Sreela Majumdar, a beloved actor known for her powerful performances in acclaimed Indian films, has sadly passed away at the age of 65. The news of her demise was confirmed by her family, who revealed that she breathed her last at her residence in Kolkata on Saturday.

A Stellar Career and Fond Remembrances

Majumdar, who had been battling cancer for the past three years, leaves behind her husband and son. Her untimely death has left the film industry and her fans in deep mourning.

Sreela Majumdar’s portrayal of characters in Mrinal Sen’s ‘Ekdin Pratidin’ (And Quiet Rolls the Dawn, 1980), ‘Kharij’ (The Case is Closed, 1982), and ‘Akaler Sandhane’ (In Search of Famine; 1981) received critical acclaim and established her as a talented actress.

She also made her mark in films such as Shyam Benegal’s ‘Mandi’ (Market Place, 1983), Prakash Jha’s ‘Damul’ (Bonded Until Death, 1985), and Utpalendu Chakraborty’s ‘Chokh’ (Eye, 1983), where her performances were highly appreciated.

Majumdar’s final film, ‘Palan’ by Kaushik Ganguly, was a widely acclaimed sequel to ‘Ekdin Pratidin’ and showcased her talent one last time.

Throughout her illustrious career, she acted in a total of 43 films, leaving an indelible mark on the Indian film industry.
