Music Director Ilaiyaraaja’s Daughter Bhavatharini Dies at 5 pm in Sri Lanka
Music director Ilaiyaraaja’s daughter and National-award winning playback singer Bhavatharini passed away on January 25 in Sri Lanka. She had been battling Stage four liver cancer for the past few months. The news of her death has left the film industry and fans in shock and mourning.
Condolences Pour In From Actors and Composers
As soon as the news of Bhavatharini’s demise surfaced, many actors and composers took to social media to express their condolences to Ilaiyaraaja and his family. Silambarasan, Anirudh Ravichander, Chinmayi Sripaada, and several others paid tribute to Bhavatharini.
Silambarasan, also known as Simbu, expressed his grief on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “The voice that forever lives in the heart of people for its innocence and love! You were a pure soul! Gone too soon! I pray to God to give strength to the family of Illayaraja sir and my brother @thisisysr at this moment! Rest in peace Bhavatharini.” Simbu also shared a clip of Bhavatharini singing a portion of ‘Meherezylaa’ from his film, ‘Maanaadu’. The film is directed by her cousin Venkat Prabhu and has music composed by her brother, Yuvan Shankar Raja.
AR Rahman, the renowned composer, posted, “Our hearts are with you in this time of sorrow.”
Anirudh Ravichander, another popular composer, expressed his shock and sadness over Bhavatharini’s passing. He wrote, “Shocked and saddened #RIPBhavatharini. Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.”
Tributes from the Tamil Film Industry
The Tamil film industry mourned the loss of Bhavatharini and shared their condolences. Composer Santhosh Narayanan posted a heartfelt message, remembering Bhavatharini as a supremely talented and soft-spoken individual. He said, “Such a tragic loss. The supremely talented and soft-spoken Bhavatharini madam has left us with so many memories to treasure. Prayers and condolences to Raja sir and family.”
Actor Simran expressed her shock and sadness, writing, “Shocked and saddened by the passing away of Bhavatharini. Sending heartfelt condolences and prayers to Raja sir & Yuvan’s family during this difficult time. Om Shanti.”
Playback singer and voice artist Chinmayi Sripaada, who knew Bhavatharini personally, called her “one of the nicest people” she knew. Chinmayi posted, “Bhavatharini Ilayaraja was one of the nicest people I knew. Safe travels, lovely girl. I wish and pray for strength to Raja sir, Karthik Raja, and Yuvan Shankar Raja. This is so heartbreaking.”
