In a sad turn of events, Darrell “Brother Darrell” Woner Robinson, 88, passed away on January 23 in Conroe, Texas. Born and raised in Texas, Robinson had a deep passion for ministry, dedicating his life to serving others and spreading the word of God.

A Life of Education and Leadership

Robinson’s journey in ministry began with his education. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, before going on to earn a master of arts degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctor of ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary.

Throughout his career, Robinson held various leadership positions. He served as the president of Total Church Life Ministries and was the vice president of evangelism at the Home Mission Board, which is now known as the North American Mission Board.

Robinson’s church ministry started early on as a student and bivocational pastor in West Texas. He served at Forsan Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Church, King Baptist Church, and Lakeview Baptist Church. As his career progressed, he became the senior pastor of several churches, including Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama; First Baptist Church Pasadena, Texas; First Baptist Church Vernon, Texas; First Baptist Church Liberal, Kansas; Hillcrest Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas; Berea Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas; and Midway Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas.

A Life of Loss and Love

Robinson faced his fair share of heartache throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Woner Robinson and Lillie Augusta Walker Robinson, his first wife, Betty Jean Davis Robinson, his sister, Zena Kay Robinson Morse, and his daughter, Lori Kay Robinson.

However, he leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Kyzar Robinson, and his children Duane, Robin, and Loren Robinson. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, with an additional five through marriage, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. His brother, Mac Robinson, and his sister, Sherilyn Robinson Gilmore, also survive him.

A Legacy of Faith

In his later years, Robinson and his wife found solace and community at Memorial Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He was not only a dedicated pastor but also an accomplished author, with several of his books being translated into different languages.

The visitation for Darrell “Brother Darrell” Woner Robinson will be held today (January 26) from 5 to 8 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home in Magnolia, Texas.
