Darrell “Brother Darrell” Woner Robinson, a beloved figure in the Texas community, sadly passed away on January 23 in Conroe, Texas, at the age of 88. Born and raised in Texas, he dedicated his life to serving others and spreading the message of faith.

Robinson pursued his education passionately, earning a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He went on to further his studies by obtaining a master of arts degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a doctor of ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary.

A Life of Ministry and Service

Robinson’s commitment to his faith led him to various positions of leadership and service. He served as the president of Total Church Life Ministries and as the vice president of evangelism at the Home Mission Board, which is now known as the North American Mission Board.

Throughout his career, Robinson’s ministry took him to different churches across Texas and beyond. He started as a student and bivocational pastor in West Texas, where he served at Forsan Baptist Church, Bethel Baptist Church, King Baptist Church, and Lakeview Baptist Church. He later became the senior pastor of Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama, First Baptist Church Pasadena in Texas, First Baptist Church Vernon in Texas, First Baptist Church Liberal in Kansas, Hillcrest Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas, Berea Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas, and Midway Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas.

Family and Legacy

Robinson was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Woner Robinson and Lillie Augusta Walker Robinson, as well as his first wife, Betty Jean Davis Robinson. He also mourned the loss of his sister, Zena Kay Robinson Morse, and his daughter, Lori Kay Robinson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Kyzar Robinson, and their children, Duane, Robin, and Loren Robinson. He leaves behind a legacy of 11 grandchildren, with five more through marriage, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. Robinson is also survived by his brother, Mac Robinson, and his sister, Sherilyn Robinson Gilmore.

Contributions and Community Involvement

Robinson’s dedication to his faith extended beyond his role as a pastor. In his later years, he and his wife actively participated in the life of Memorial Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Additionally, Robinson’s passion for writing led him to become an accomplished author, with several of his books being translated into different languages.

Visitation and Funeral Arrangements

The visitation for Robinson will be held today, January 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home in Magnolia, Texas. The funeral service will take place tomorrow, January 27, at 10 a.m. at the same location. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service is available here.
