He started by selling films on college campuses and eventually rose to oversee the company’s Hollywood office, showcasing his natural talent for sales and business affairs.

A Career of Achievements

In 1980, Calmette Sr. joined Avco Embassy Pictures, where he quickly climbed the ranks to become the director and later the vice president of non-theatrical sales. During his time there, he garnered recognition for his exceptional sales performance with esteemed clients in the hotel and airline industries.

In 1984, Calmette Sr. made a move to New World Entertainment, assuming the role of senior vice president of acquisitions. He continued to excel in sales and also ventured into licensing, merchandising, and theatrical acquisitions. His expertise and experience led him to handle acquisitions and subsidiary sales for Studio Three Film Corp. and later at Reis Media.

However, it was his extensive involvement with Felix the Cat Productions that truly defined Calmette Sr.’s career. For over 30 years, he served as the head of business affairs for the Oriolo family-owned company, overseeing all worldwide merchandising and licensing deals for the beloved cartoon character. His contributions extended beyond business matters, as he even took on the role of executive producer for the video feature “Felix the Cat Saves Christmas.”

A Loving Family Man

Walter E. Calmette, Sr. leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Mila, who stood by his side throughout his illustrious career. Their son, Walter Jr., and daughter-in-law Heidi, along with grandsons Michael, Andrew, and John, will forever be grateful for the love and guidance that Calmette Sr. provided.
