Jamaican reggae singer Pluto Shervington, known for his chart-topping hits like ‘Ram Goat Liver’, ‘I Man Born Yah’, and ‘Your Honour’, has passed away at the age of 73.

The beloved entertainer breathed his last on Friday morning at a hospital in Florida, where he had been residing since the early 1980s.

A Multi-Talented Artist

Born as Leighton Keith Shervington on August 13, 1950, in Jamaica, Pluto Shervington was not only a singer but also a skilled songwriter, engineer, and producer.

His musical journey began at the tender age of 16 when he joined a band called The Presidents in 1966. After a year, he moved on to The Hurricanes before eventually finding his place in the Tomorrow’s Children showband.

A Comical Hit

After venturing into a solo career, Shervington struck gold with his 1976 hit ‘Ram Goat Liver’. This humorous song revolved around a man’s love for goat meat and its supposed ability to enhance the qualities of his female companion.

Following this success, he continued to make waves with his music, including the popular track ‘Dat’, which reached Number Six on the UK Singles Chart in 1976.

Continued Success in Miami

In the early 1980s, Shervington made the move to Miami, where he continued to create music and etch his name into the industry. He even managed to reach the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart with ‘Your Honour’, a song originally recorded in 1975 but never released at the time.

Despite residing in the United States, Shervington maintained strong ties with his homeland and frequently performed in Jamaica during his later years.

“Jamaica never left his heart. He will never leave the hearts of us Jamaicans. RIP my friend,” Mair shared in a post on social media.
