Chad McCrary, a renowned bodybuilder known for his unwavering determination, has sadly passed away at the age of 49. In 2005, he suffered a life-changing motocross accident that left him paralyzed. However, Chad’s incredible resilience and perseverance led him to become an inspiration in the world of Wheelchair Bodybuilding.

The heartbreaking news was shared by his brother, Lance McCrary, through an emotional Instagram post on Friday. Lance announced, “RIP Chad McCrary: April 1, 1974 – January 2, 2024,” but did not disclose the cause of his passing.

A True Beast Mode Warrior

Lance McCrary lovingly praised his brother, describing him as a bodybuilder in his “Beast mode.” Chad’s determination and ability to spread joy and wisdom made him an exceptional individual. Jim McMahon, CEO of Mutant, a prominent sports fitness brand, expressed his grief and admiration for Chad in a heartfelt video tribute, highlighting the camaraderie he brought to the bodybuilding community.

McMahon shared, “Having good friends and camaraderie is what we all strive for in life, so I don’t have much to say…just that the heart hurts. That’s the simplest way to put it. Peace and love to everybody.”

Chad’s friends and fellow bodybuilders also expressed their condolences. Ludovic Marchand, a close friend, recalled how Chad often sought advice and inspiration from him. Nikky Ricks, who had a pleasant conversation with Chad at the Olympia, described him as a delightful individual with a great sense of humor.

Hailing from Texas, Chad McCrary began his bodybuilding journey in 2000. Despite the life-altering accident in 2005, he made an astonishing comeback to the sport just six months later, competing in the wheelchair division.

In 2022, McCrary achieved an impressive top-10 finish at the prestigious Mr. Olympia competition, adding to his long list of accomplishments. He secured first place at the Heart of Texas Heavyweight competition and emerged victorious at the Lone Star State and Arkansas State Championships.
