Former Defence Minister Mark Owen Woyongo Passes Away

The former Minister of Defence, Interior and Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Mark Owen Woyongo, has sadly passed away. The news of his death was announced by the head of the Woyongo Family, Mr. Awuni Zinge. According to the statement, Mark Owen Woyongo passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Bank of Ghana Hospital in Accra.
The statement issued on Thursday, January 18, 2024, expressed the deep sorrow of the Woyongo Family. It read, “The head of the Woyongo Family, Mr. Awini Zinge of Nayagnia–Navrongo, wishes to announce with deep sorrow the death of their beloved son and brother, Hon. Mark Owen Woyongo. The sad event occurred on Wednesday, 17th January 2024 at the Bank of Ghana Hospital.”
About Mark Owen Woyongo
Mark Owen Woyongo had a distinguished career in politics and public service. He was first appointed as the Upper East Regional Minister by the late President John Evans Atta Mills in 2009. Following the untimely death of President Mills, he was retained in that position by former President John Dramani Mahama.
In 2013, President Mahama nominated Woyongo for the position of Minister for Defence. His dedication and commitment to the role led to his subsequent nomination for the position of Interior Minister in 2014.
Throughout his career, Woyongo served the nation with integrity and played a crucial role in shaping Ghana’s defence and security policies. His work has left a lasting impact on the country and its people.
