US News: A tragic incident took place in Oklahoma where an Indian-American motel manager lost his life after being punched in the motel parking lot. The victim, identified as Hemant Mistry, passed away at the age of 59 in a local hospital following the assault near I-40 and Meridian Avenue on a Saturday night around 10 PM.
Hailing from Gujarat, Mistry’s life was cut short due to a violent altercation. Reports indicate that the perpetrator behind this senseless act was a 41-year-old man named Richard Lewis.
Details of the Incident
According to sources from Hindustan Times, Mistry had confronted Lewis and asked him to leave the property. In response, Lewis lashed out and punched the victim, causing him to fall unconscious immediately. Mistry was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries at nearly 7.40 pm on June 23.
Arrest of the Accused
Following the incident, Lewis was apprehended at a hotel in the 1900 block of S Meridian Avenue. He was subsequently arrested and detained at the Oklahoma County jail on June 24. The accused faces charges of aggravated assault and battery, with a bond set at $100,000.
Police Investigation
Oklahoma City police have been actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault. While it remains unclear why Lewis was asked to leave the property in the first place, it is evident that the situation escalated to a tragic outcome.
