Accident – Death – Obituary News : LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the 5th officer-involved shooting and the 5th fatal shooting of 2024. This incident unfolded at an apartment complex in the downtown area and has raised concerns about public safety and police response protocols.

The alarming situation began around noon on June 20, when multiple reports were received by police dispatch regarding an armed man at the apartment complex on 9th Street near Ogden Street. The man, later identified as Seth Samuel Wilson, 49, was reported to be carrying a long gun and threatening to harm individuals within the vicinity.

A recent 911 call sheds light on the intensity of the situation, with a tenant witnessing Wilson pointing a rifle towards the complex’s front door. The caller described Wilson as wearing a red “Make America Great” hat and expressed disbelief at the unfolding events.

Surveillance footage captured the encounter between the caller and Wilson before law enforcement arrived at the scene. When officers reached the apartment complex, they found Wilson armed and residing on the third floor. Despite attempts to peacefully negotiate with Wilson over the phone, he abruptly ended the call, signalling a potential escalation.

Moments later, Wilson emerged from the building holding the rifle, prompting officers to issue multiple verbal commands to drop the weapon. Tragically, Wilson lowered the rifle towards the officers, resulting in them firing at him. The swift response led to Wilson collapsing, with no shots fired from his end during the confrontation.

Following the incident, medical assistance was summoned, but Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers involved, identified as Officer Matthew Kravetz, 35, and Officer Andrew Buckland, 39, both from the Tourist Safety Division at the Downtown Area Command, have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.

If Wilson had survived, he would have faced charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a protective person, assault with a deadly weapon, and resisting an officer with a firearm. This marks the fifth officer-involved shooting and fatal shooting of the year for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in ensuring public safety..
